L'istituto al tramonto

about

1972's "Ombre Illuminate Sugli Artigli di Un'Aquila" is no stranger to fans of Italian mysteries, as much for its layer-cake of conspiracies as its storied history of edits. Originally filmed in 1970 and recut twice before its first release, it went on to be heavily rearranged and released two additional times: under the hand of West German editor Antje Fortier, it was made into an intricately-paced interpersonal and political thriller released in 1973 as "The Birdwatcher's Grasp". Two years later, the original film was reworked again at the studio's direction, resulting in the lurid and generally artless release known as "Leccati il Pugnale, Affila i tuoi Artigli."

One of the leitmotifs of the original film, this arrangement of "L'istituto al Tramonto" accompanied scenes of research into the competing and nesting conspiracies, the dark doings of these secret societies contrasted by the languid afternoon sun in which hero Umberto Altimari (Franco Caiazzo) pours over newspapers, file cards, and diaries.

In a special collaboration with the FRAGMENTS OF FEAR podcast for one of their Patreon-exclusive bonus episodes, Superspectrum Sound Studios is pleased to make this newly-remastered work by Massimo e Massimo available in high-fidelity for the first time.
